The Breeders feat. J Mascis, Divine Mascis Download MP3
It has been 30 years since the release of The Breeders’ classic album “Last Splash,” yet it still resonates today. The album has influenced generations of fuzzed-out pop music, which is why The Breeders are opening for Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming tour. They also have shows coming up with Screaming Females, Foo Fighters, and Belly, whose leader Tanya Donnelly was an original member of The Breeders.
The Breeders will release a 30th-anniversary edition of “Last Splash” later this week, featuring a few previously unreleased tracks. One of those tracks, “Go Man Go,” has already been released. In addition, The Breeders have shared a new version of their hit song “Divine Hammer.” This version features The Breeders teaming up with another underground rock legend who was on his way to mainstream rock stardom in the post-Nirvana era.
In 1993, the same year that The Breeders released “Last Splash,” Dinosaur Jr. released their big breakout album “Where You Been.” Kim Deal, who was previously in The Pixies, would have played the same Boston clubs as Dinosaur Jr. The Breeders brought in Dino Jr. leader J Mascis to add his fuzzed-out guitar shredding to the track. Mascis surprised the band by swapping out the Deal sisters’ lead vocals for his own transcendently tired rasp.
A new video for this version of “Divine Hammer,” now titled “Divine Mascis,” has been directed by Sabrina Nichols. Below, you can watch the video and check out The Breeders’ upcoming tour dates.
LYRICS
- I’m just looking for
- Just looking for a way around
- It disappears this near
