Sampha’s “Lahai” Album Download MP3 ZIP Files
Sampha, a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-hyphenate artist, has released his second album, Lahai. The album is a dense but light exploration of life and the many leaps of faith required to live it honestly.
While both Sampha’s lyrical style and vocal prowess are exceptional, it’s really as a producer that he can express the full breadth of his talent. Lahai is jam-packed with ideas, whether it’s the way he continuously layers his vocals to create texture through harmony or how he’s able to slightly bend pianos and guitars around complicated beats until they sound warped, warm, and welcoming.
If anything, the record’s fault is that sometimes, the non-stop restlessness can distract from the subtler aspects of the songwriting. Still, generally, Sampha can deploy the intricacies of his production style to significant effect.
Thematically dense but never heavy, Lahai is peppered with references to flying, the sky, and lightness; the album art features Sampha against a background of a blue sky dotted with clouds, staring at the camera as if looking down from the heavens. If Sampha’s 2017 debut album, Process, was the act of wading through the muck of healing, Lahai is the cleansing shower that comes when it’s finally time to wash all the dirt off, shedding layer after layer until all that’s left is air.

Sampha Lahai Sisay, a singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer from South London, is widely known for his collaborative work with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Drake, Kanye West, and Solange. He has released two solo EPs, Sundanza and Dual.
Sampha Sisay released his debut album ‘Process’ in 2017, which won the Mercury Prize. After this success, Sampha retreated from the spotlight but continued to work behind the scenes.
Now, after six years, Sampha has released a new album, ‘Lahai,’ which is also profoundly personal. The album references fatherhood and an existential crisis that he has gone through.
The emotional crisis that Sampha has gone through is reflected in the album’s sound. The melodies are beautiful, and Sampha’s voice is warm and understated, but everything around the vocals sounds agitated.
Sampha overcame his crisis through therapy and reading Richard Bach’s 1970 novella, ‘Jonathan Livingston Seagull,’ which inspired two beautiful songs on the album, ‘Spirit 2.0’ and ‘Jonathan L Seagull.’
