Helena Deland‘s “Goodnight Summerland“ Album Download Leak MP3 ZIP Files

Helena Deland is a musician based in Montreal, who is fascinated by how songs can express what everyday language cannot.

She draws inspiration from reading and going on walks. In 2020, she released her first album, Someone New, under Luminelle Recordings. Later, she collaborated with another Montreal musician, Ouri, on a record called Hildegard, released under section 1.

On October 13th, 2023, Helena will release her second full-length album, Goodnight Summerland, containing eleven intimate and meditative songs, published by her label and long-term collaborators, Chivi Chivi. The album features four singles, “Swimmer,” “Spring Bug,” “Bright Green Vibrant Gray,” and “Strawberry Moon.” Helena will embark on her first world headline tour in November 2023 and February 2024. She has previously toured North America and Europe, opening for artists such as Weyes Blood, Andy Shauf, Connan Mockasin, Soccer Mommy, and Iggy Pop.

Helena recounts her experience of discovering Summerland, the place of her birth, which she had never googled or seen before. She had relied solely on stories her parents had told her of the place, such as the mandolin-playing roommate, the friendly ghost in the attic, and the red Toyota.

When she finally looked up the place, she was stunned by its beauty, which had eluded her until then. This experience reminds her of how perceptions change over time.

In the summer of 2021, Helena’s mother, Maria, passed away. Though some songs were written before then, Goodnight Summerland was recorded in the years following her mother’s passing. Grief has taught Helena the virtues of vulnerability and forced her to confront death.

It has been a pure encounter with mystery, and she has learned that questions can hold more meaning than their answers. In a culture that values individualism over connection, she believes that daring to say something difficult can bridge the gap between people.

Helena wanted the recordings to emphasize the living heart of each lyric, hoping that the vulnerability it took to write them could remain intact. She recorded some demos in the space at her parent’s home in the weeks following her mom’s passing.

Later on, she worked with her bandmates, Alexandre Larin on guitar and Francis Ledoux on drums, at a beloved studio in Ontario, Port William Sound. She then took the demos to the Catskills, where Sam Owens and Hannah Cohen’s Flying Cloud Recordings were located. Sam and Helena then recorded the versions you hear on the album. The album was mixed by Sam and Heba Kadry, who also mastered her first record, Someone New.

Throughout the album, Helena prioritizes the act of saying something over what is being said. She loves the idea that music starts where language ends. Writing and recording Goodnight Summerland felt like an act of letting go and living in that space with the lights turned off. It was a “Goodnight” rather than a “Goodbye.” Music, she believes, can convey more than words ever could.

Helena Deland is a Canadian singer-songwriter who has released five EPs to date: Drawing Room and From the Series of Songs “Altogether Unaccompanied” Vol. I, II, III & IV, which she wrote and composed. Her first full-length album, Someone New, was released on October 15, 2020.
