Ella Williams, under the moniker Squirrel Flower, has announced the release of her latest album, “Tomorrows’s Fire,” on October 13th via Polyvinyl.
Along with the album announcement, Williams has also shared two songs from the project and a new set of international tour dates.
Self-produced alongside engineer Alex Farrar, “Tomorrows’s Fire” sees Williams moving away from her folksy sound and towards a rock-inspired album. To achieve this heavier sound, she collaborated with musicians such as Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver), Seth Kauffman (Angel Olsen band), Jake Lenderman (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday), and Dave Hartley (The War on Drugs) to form her studio band. The album is currently available for pre-order.
The lead single from the album, “Full Time Job,” is a grungy track that explores the balance between life’s necessities, such as working to survive, and the pursuit of happiness. In the music video, Williams attempts to mop up water from the ocean, symbolizing the futility of the cycle. The second song, “When a Plant Is Dying,” is a slower, mournful track where Williams laments the monotony of life.
Squirrel Flower will support Hurray for the Riff Raff on tour this summer before embarking on a lengthy headlining trek in the fall. The tour dates extend into the new year and will include rotating support from Truth Club, Merce Lemon, Knifeplay, Goon, Cryogeyser, and Alexalone. Fans can check out Williams’ full tour itinerary below and purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.
Squirrel Flower’s last release was the “Planet” EP in 2021, which followed the full-length album “Planet (i).”
