Shaboozey is preparing for the release of his own country album next month, titled “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going”. The album is set to be released on May 31st through Empire. This is following his previous projects, “Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die” in 2022 and his 2018 debut “Lady Wrangler”.

He describes his upcoming album as a blend of different genres with “a little bit of this genre that even Cowboy Carter created, just a bit of everything. A lot of country, but some hip-hop moments on there, too”. He also notes that the album is a reflection of his personal story and journey.

Louisiana native, Jones, lends his vocals on the track “Just for Fun”, which was written by Beyonce, Dave Hamelin, Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman and Ryan Beatty. Jones, who competed on The X Factor’s second season, where he auditioned with a version of Josh Turner’s “Your Man”, released his first album “Down for It” in 2021. He was also a part of the 2022 documentary “For Love and Country”, which focused on the journeys and struggles of Black artists in country music. This week, Jones released his rendition of Usher’s “OMG” as part of a new Apple Music Sessions EP.

Jones’s favorite line in “Just For Fun” is “Time heals everything/ I don’t need anything, Hallelujah”. He says that he felt a strong connection to the song, “To be on the same track as Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is definitely a check off my bucket list.”

About Shaboozey

Collins Obinna Chibueze, professionally known as Shaboozey, is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and record producer. He was born on May 9, 1995, in northern Virginia to parents from Nigeria and raised in Fairfax. Shaboozey’s music style blends hip hop, country, rock, and Americana.

He gained recognition for his collaboration with Duckwrth on “Start a Riot,” which featured on the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. In 2024, he worked with Beyoncé on two tracks for her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter.

Shaboozey founded the production company V Picture Films in 2014 and released his debut single, “Jeff Gordon,” the same year. In 2017, he signed with Republic Records following the success of his singles “Starfoxx” and “Robert Plant.” He released his first studio album, Lady Wrangler, the following year.

In October 2022, Shaboozey released his second studio album, Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die, under the Empire label. He will release his third studio album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, on May 31, 2024. He plans to promote the album with headlining shows in the U.S. and as an opening act for Jessie Murph on tour.

Growing up, Shaboozey was inspired by watching music videos on 106 & Park and his time at a boarding school in Nigeria for junior high. He derives his stage name from mispronunciations of his surname Chibueze, which means “God is king” in Igbo.

Influences on his music include the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and Led Zeppelin, as well as Martin Scorsese films such as Taxi Driver. Other influences include Fela Kuti, Clipse, Roger Waters, the Backstreet Boys, Pharrell, Missy Elliot, Lead Belly, and Johnny Cash. While his earlier music had more of a trap influence, his later songs have a folk-pop sound with acoustic guitar.
