Stand Atlantic has announced that their new album, “WAS HERE,” will be released on August 23. The band has released a new single from the album titled “GIRL$,” which features guest appearances from Bruses and PVRIS’ Lyndsey Gunnulfsen. The song focuses on singer Bonnie Fraser’s experiences with having to conform to male expectations despite being a queer woman.

Bonnie Fraser explained the song’s message, stating, “I wanted to show my appreciation for women and express my experience of growing up knowing I was attracted to women but still feeling the need to fit the mold of the male gaze due to the influence of a male-dominated society.” She hopes that the track resonates with other queer women and women in general, as well as anyone in between.

Fraser also expressed her gratitude for having Lynn and Amalia on the track, both of whom are female, queer, and talented artists she deeply respects. She mentioned that creating the music video with Lynn was a fun experience, as they both had the same idea independently of each other, which was to “be old ladies.” She emphasized that they purposely went against the expectation of selling sex and queer baiting and instead approached the video in a lighthearted manner.
