Underground band Deadletter has announced their debut album “Hysterical Strength”, set to be released on 13th September through SO Recordings. Alongside this announcement, the band has shared their lead single “Mere Mortal” and unveiled the dates for a new headline tour across the UK and Europe.

The single “Mere Mortal” was produced by the renowned British producer Jim Abbiss, known for his work with Arctic Monkeys and Adele. It is described as a track woven with “contorting, elastic basslines and stuttering, angular guitar motifs,” enriched by bursts of impulsive saxophone. The song was inspired by the personal tragedy of a friend’s suicide and aims to resonate with those familiar with loss and longing.

Lead singer Zac Lawrence expressed his thoughts on the single, stating, “Though ‘Mere Mortal’ was written in the wake of personal tragedy, its intention is not to convey the sentiment of subjective grief, but to act as an undoubtedly relatable tale of loss and longing for all those who themselves have been faced with and have had to navigate the confusing, painful landscape that bereavement leaves one confronted by.”

The album “Hysterical Strength” promises to explore art-punk with twelve tracks that navigate through themes of despair and beauty. The album reflects on modern life’s contradictions, as Lawrence explains, “It’s punishing but there’s also beauty out there.”

Since their first release in 2022, Deadletter has gained significant traction, earning spots on playlists and receiving acclaim from notable outlets like BBC Radio 1 and NME. The band’s upcoming tour marks their most extensive yet, with performances scheduled in major cities across Europe before heading to the UK in November.
