Confidence Man is an Australian indie electro pop band formed in 2016 in Brisbane, Queensland. They released their debut album, “Confident Music for Confident People,” in April 2018. The front-duo and their band members have performed at many festivals across the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia, including the notable Glastonbury Festival. Confidence Man has announced their third studio album, “3AM (LA LA LA),” set for release in October. According to a press release, the album is described as “Confidence Man 3.0, locked and loaded, and they’re building a rave new world, where the outfits are daringly small, the hairstyles outrageously large, and it’s always, always night.”
“3AM (La La La)” is the third studio album by Australian electro pop band, Confidence Man. It was announced on 5 June 2024, alongside the album’s lead single, “I Can’t Lose You,” and is scheduled for release on 18 October 2024. In an interview with NME, the band mentioned that the whole album is very London-inspired, both in sounds and lyrics, depicting the experience of a group of friends moving to London and the excitement of being in a new place. Janet Planet mentioned in an interview with Rolling Stone Australia in June 2024 that they wrote every single song while they were under the influence, staying up until 9am to create music, with 3am being the prime time for their best ideas.
Confidence Man member Sugar Bones described “3AM (LA LA LA)” as the sound of the night. He said, “It’s a messed up sort of world… It’s 3am, it’s never not 3am, and we party all the time.” Alongside the album announcement, they released a new single, “I CAN’T LOSE YOU,” which features a music video showing the band taking a helicopter ride over London. “3AM (LA LA LA)” sees Sugar Bones, Janet Planet, Clarence McGuffie, and Reggie Goodchild exploring UK rave sounds of the ’90s and ’00s, from acid techno to trance, breakbeat to big beat.
“We wanted to dehumanize pop music and make it over the top and ridiculous again,” Planet said of their sonic mission. “We wanted to revisit those sounds and then add pop hooks and vocals to them. I feel like that hasn’t really been done before, besides The Prodigy.” Confidence Man even received a vote of confidence from a British acid house legend: Jimmy Cauty of the KLF.
“I don’t think he’d been to a gig in 25 years, and he came to see us at the Roundhouse in London,” Planet revealed. “He’s been mentoring us a bit ever since.” (Cauty even worked on a remix of the album’s closing title track.) Confidence Man’s previous album, 2022’s “Tilt,” was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Release at the ARIA Awards that year and became the band’s highest-charting album to date, reaching #7 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
