“CHROMAKOPIA” marks Tyler, The Creator’s eighth studio album, breaking his long-standing two-year release cycle for odd-numbered years. The album was first teased with the intro track, “St. Chroma,” on October 16, 2024. Throughout “CHROMAKOPIA,” Tyler grapples with the complexities of maturity, as the once vibrant joy of ambition and youth fades alongside his development. His mother’s advice, Bonita Smith, plays a crucial role in the album’s progression, keeping Tyler’s “light” alive as he navigates the greatest challenges of adulthood.

While Tyler adopts a new visual aesthetic for “CHROMAKOPIA,” the album does not introduce a character or persona. Instead, it symbolizes his true self. Over time, Tyler has matured beyond using alter egos in his work, as evident in the “SORRY NOT SORRY” music video, where he confronts and metaphorically defeats his former personas. In this album, Tyler addresses deeper themes, including his fears of fatherhood and the effects of materialism.

During the creation of “CHROMAKOPIA,” Tyler remained largely silent about his work, even suggesting that he wouldn’t release new music in 2024. His activities between the release of “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST” and “CHROMAKOPIA” include launching his Louis Vuitton collection, collaborating with Converse, and releasing “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale” in 2023.

The artwork and release date for “CHROMAKOPIA” were revealed on October 17, just a day after the teaser for “St. Chroma,” via X and Instagram. Tyler announced that all songs on the album would be written, produced, and arranged by him. Alongside the unveil, the Golf Wang website was updated with “CHROMAKOPIA” merchandise, including physical bundles and an early CD pressing of the album. The official lead single, “Noid,” was released on October 21, later confirmed as the third track on the album. Five days later, he released “Thought I Was Dead,” which is track eleven.

The night before the album’s release, Tyler held a party at the Intuit Dome, debuting the full album. In the cover art for “CHROMAKOPIA,” Tyler departs from his usual vibrant color palette to a grayscale design. This shift symbolizes the “fading” of the colorful exterior fans have come to expect. This muted aesthetic connects to Chroma from “The Phantom Tollbooth,” in which Chroma the Great conducts all the world’s colors. Tyler’s pose on the album cover embodies this concept, portraying him as the “conductor” of his feelings and experiences. The cover art for **CHROMAKOPIA** was revealed on his social media on October 17, 2024, and this version omits the album title and credits.
