Singer-songwriters and frequent collaborators Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler have announced their highly anticipated joint album, “brent iii,” which is set to be released on November 1 through CC Ventures, LLC, and Republic Records. This album marks their third collaboration, following the successful “brent” (2019) and brent ii” (2021) EPs, and is their first project together in three years. The lead single, “black & white,” sets the tone for the forthcoming release.
“black & white” is a heartfelt love song that explores emotional connection and healing themes. In the song, Zucker and Cutler express the comfort and security found in a relationship, even when life feels stark and challenging. In the first verse, Cutler candidly shares her feelings of unease and her struggle to feel like herself, stating that only her loved one comes close to providing comfort: “Haven’t been doin’ well / Nothin’ makes me feel like myself / Nothin’ comes as close as you do.” The pre-chorus serves as a reminder of love’s transformative power, opening up a world of emotions for both artists.
While love can often be characterized by difficulty, hardship, and heart-wrenching pain, Zucker‘s presence brings color and vibrancy to a life that might otherwise feel “black and white.” Together, they sing, “Whisper sweet words in my ear when it hurts / Help the time move slower, let me have tonight / ‘Cause you put color in my black and white,” encapsulating the idea that love can bring hope and light amidst personal struggles.
Following previous hits like “this is how you fall in love” and “you were good to me,” Zucker and Cutler continue to showcase their chemistry and ability to find calm in the midst of life’s storms. Ahead of the song’s release, Zucker shared on Instagram, “‘brent iii: the album’ is yours on November 1. When we sat down to write together again, songs just kept pouring out of us, and we knew we needed to give you everything we had. “black & white” out at midnight <3.”
