About Artist:
Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, known professionally as Nas, was born on September 14, 1973. He is an American rapper and entrepreneur, rooted in East Coast hip-hop, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time. The son of jazz musician Olu Dara, Nas began his musical career in 1989 under the name “Nasty Nas,” recording demos with the help of fellow East Coast rapper Large Professor. He made his recording debut on the song “Live at the Barbeque” by Main Source in 1991.
In 1992, Nas signed with Columbia Records and released his debut studio album, ‘Illmatic’, two years later in 1994. This album is now recognized as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time and is an inductee of the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry. His second album, ‘It Was Written’, released in 1996, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and sold over a quarter million copies in its first week. The album and its lead single “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)” featuring Lauryn Hill helped Nas achieve mainstream success. However, both of his subsequent albums released in 1999, ‘I Am’ and ‘Nastradamus’, received criticism for being inconsistent and overly commercial. Critics and audiences expressed concerns over a perceived decline in the quality of his work.
