Angie McMahon’s “Light Sides” EP Download ZIP & MP3 Free Files
The Australian artist Angie McMahon has released a new single, “Untangling,” as a preview of her upcoming EP, Light Sides. The EP is set to be released on Sept. 13 via AWAL and consists of five tracks that were written alongside her second album, Light, Dark, Light Again, which came out last October.
McMahon revealed that “Untangling” was a challenging track to complete, as it had remained unfinished on her phone since the early stages of creating Light, Dark, Light Again. The song was written about someone deeply connected to her life, and she felt that neither the song nor the process of untangling was truly finished.
The deeply personal song touches on McMahon‘s struggle with the idea that she may have hurt someone because she took too long to heal. Despite these emotions, McMahon sings about untangling those feelings from her core over a strong bassline and gritty guitar, referring to the situation as “a joint misadventure.”
The song was recorded at her longtime collaborator Alex O’Gorman’s studio in suburban Melbourne, Australia, during breaks in her recent Making It Through tour. It is the only song on Light Sides that was completed with her beloved live band: Lachlan O’Kane (drums/percussion), Jess Ellwood (guitar), Stella Farnan (keys/synth), and O’Gorman (bass).
McMahon expressed her gratitude for her friends and the natural surroundings, saying, “I was surrounded by trees and my friends, and I’m so grateful to them for their musical powers.”
“Untangling” follows the release of another track from the EP, “Just Like North.” The tracklist for Light Sides will include these two released songs, as well as the original tracks “Beginner,” “Interstate,” and “Take Up Space.”
McMahon has recently returned to the United States for a series of full-band Midwest and East Coast tour dates, following her performances at Glastonbury, multiple sold-out shows at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre and the Sydney Opera House, and an appearance with long-time supporter Fred Again on stage in front of 15,000 fans in Australia.
