Beach Weather is an American rock band originally based in the fictional resort town of Beach Weather, U.S.A. The band comprises members Nick Santino, Sean Silverman, and Reeve Powers. With their sophomore album, “Melt,” they move away from the fictional world of their debut album, “Pineapple Sunrise,” and head into the desert—a place where only the strong survive and where the band began, as the members met in Arizona.

The 12-song album “Melt” showcases the band’s maturity, honesty, and storytelling, especially since their career revival in recent years. Their first album, “Pineapple Sunrise,” propelled them to fame with the multi-platinum single “Sex, Drugs, Etc.,” which reached No. 1 on alternative radio. Along with other notable tracks like “Unlovable,” “Trouble With This Bed,” and the title track, it helped the band grow their dedicated fan base known as the Beach Weather Rock N Roll Club.

Unlike *Pineapple Sunrise*, which was written during the pandemic while the members were separated by thousands of miles, *Melt* allowed them to connect over shared road experiences and the recording process itself. Like their previous music, this record was produced and recorded by the band in collaboration with producers Sean and Alex Silverman. Sean officially joined the band in 2021. Reeve explains, “Sean Silverman could be labeled as a new member, but he had been making music with us from the start in 2015. Really, that first EP (What A Drag) was just the Silverman brothers and Nick.”

Despite the many opportunities and studios available, the band chose to stick to their original approach. “With our first couple of EPs, we were literally recording in our friend’s shed and garage,” Silverman says. “This time around, we explored some traditional studio settings, but we ultimately returned to what has always worked for us: recording in small spaces.” In early 2024, while on the road, they continued mixing tracks and recording vocals in dressing rooms, and they were inspired enough to record another song in a hotel room in Boise.

This process reinforced Beach Weather’s preferred recording style and instinctual approach. “We’re throwing a bunch of different colors on the canvas at the same time,” Santino states. “If a song calls for a specific guitar part at that moment, we’ll set up an amp and record it because we know we need to capture that idea. That’s why it works in the back of a tour bus and why it works in the dressing room.”

“Melt” embodies this authentic vibe, featuring breezy alt-pop tracks like “Deadbeat Blues,” a duet with vocalist Bel, alongside effervescent pop-rock infused with a slinky R&B groove and laid-back, synth-sparkled pop, including the moody title track. “Hardcore Romance,” one of the first songs Beach Weather wrote for “Melt,” is also one of their heaviest tracks to date, melding pop melodies and hooks with fuzzed-out guitars, propulsive drums, and distorted vocals.
