Sarah Grace McLaughlin, born on July 18, 1992, is known professionally as Bishop Briggs. She is a British alternative and electropop singer. Her single “River” reached number 3 on the US Alternative Chart and has been streamed more than 485 million times on Spotify. It was part of her debut album, “Church of Scars,” which was released in April 2018. Her second album, “Champion,” was released by Island Records in July 2019 and was included in The Young Folks’ Top 50 albums of the year.

Bishop Briggs has announced the release date of her third album, “Tell My Therapist I’m Fine,” which is set to be released on October 18th via Virgin Records. This will be her first album in five years since “Champion.” To build anticipation for the new album, Briggs has released the first single, “Mona Lisa on a Mattress,” along with an accompanying video. According to an interview with Alternative Press, the song is about a messy, sexy, toxic relationship that she fell into. She co-wrote it with her close friend, Jack LaFrantz, to help her navigate through this chapter of girlhood that she hadn’t quite unpacked.

The new single deviates from the pop-soul/electropop sound of her previous albums and leans towards a more adolescent sound, as its lyrics revolve around the theme of relationships. Produced by Andrew Wells, “Mona Lisa on a Mattress” leans into the quiet-loud dynamics of alternative rock. The song starts with Briggs expressing confidence about the compliments she received in the relationship and then erupts into a boisterous admission of the toxicity in the relationship, where the lows outnumber the highs. The accompanying video also reflects the dynamic of the song, with Briggs lying in bed and jumping out in sync with the chorus before returning to a resting position at the end of the song.
