Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, born on July 2, 1993, known professionally as Saweetie, is an American rapper. Her debut single “Icy Grl” in 2017 received double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), leading her to sign with Warner Records in a joint venture with her then-manager, Max Gousse’s record label, Artistry Worldwide.
Her first extended play (EP), “High Maintenance” (2017), received a lukewarm reception and did not chart. Her second EP, “Icy” (2019), entered the Billboard 200 and produced the single “My Type,” which reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received quadruple platinum certification from the RIAA. Her singles “Tap In” (2020) and “Best Friend” (2021, featuring Doja Cat) also achieved commercial success. These singles precede the release of her upcoming debut studio album, “Pretty Bitch Music.” At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, “Best Friend” earned a nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance, and Saweetie herself was nominated for Best New Artist.
Saweetie recently released the visual for her latest single, “Is It The Way,” which samples the Jill Scott classic “The Way.” In this song, Saweetie reflects on the various ways she captivates male suitors.
During an impromptu Q&A session on Twitter, Saweetie shared insights about her debut LP, tentatively titled “Pretty B**ch Music.” She mentioned that the album will contain more than 10 tracks, but not all of her recent singles will be included. She also stated that the “Is It The Way” video sets the tone for the album visually.
When asked about her favorite release this year, she expressed that she enjoys all her songs except for one, without specifying which one. Regarding the album release date, she confirmed that it won’t arrive during the fourth quarter of this year.
In August, Saweetie discussed the two-year wait for the project on the “Podcrushed” podcast, explaining that she needed time to take her art more seriously and understand herself better.
As part of the album rollout, Saweetie has changed her appearance, opting for a different hair color in the “Is It The Way” video. She mentioned that this change was intentional and came after much reflection and input from a select few whose opinions matter to her.
