Why Bonnie has announced their new album, “Wish on the Bone,” which is set to be released on August 30 via Fire Talk. This album includes the previously unveiled single “Dotted Line” as well as a new track called “Fake Out,” which according to the band’s Blair Howerton, is about “trying to be authentic in a world that makes it impossible to do so.”
This new album follows the release of Why Bonnie‘s debut album “90 in November” in 2022. Howerton mentioned in a statement that she has changed since the release of their debut album and anticipates continuing to change in the future.
Howerton co-produced the album with Jonathan Schenke, and she explained that they were “trying on musical hats” and that the record includes some country influence, but she wasn’t sticking to one particular style. She said that her personal experience of learning to be bolder and more assertive has influenced her music.
Originally, Why Bonnie started as the musical project of Blair Howerton, but it expanded into a four-piece band for their first EP release in 2018 titled “In Water,” which was dedicated to Howerton’s brother Bristol. The band then released their second EP the same year titled “Nightgown.” In February 2020, the band released their first single, “Voice Box,” for their new label, Fat Possum Records.

Why Blair Howerton was a musician before Bonnie became his side project. But for their first release, an EP called In Water in 2018, the project grew into a four-piece. The EP was devoted to Bristol, Howerton’s brother. In the same year, the band issued Nightgown, their second EP. The band’s debut song, “Voice Box,” from their new label Fat Possum Records, was released in February 2020. April 2020 saw the release of their third EP, which bore the same name as the previously stated single. The group’s debut album, 90 in November, was made available in August 2022.
