Zambian-Canadian rapper Backxwash has just dropped her latest album, “Only Dust Remains,” and it’s already making noise! The album came out today on her own label, Ugly Hag, and it’s packed with 10 tracks that show off her wild, one-of-a-kind style.
Backxwash, whose real name is Ashanti Mutinta, is known for mixing heavy beats with deep, personal lyrics. This new project comes after her big trilogy of albums, including the 2020 Polaris Music Prize winner “God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out Of It.” With “Only Dust Remains,” she’s taking things in a fresh direction, blending moody vibes with some hope and reflection. Fans are saying it’s like nothing else out there, with songs that hit hard and make you think.
The album kicked off with the single “Wake Up” last year, a seven-minute track that got everyone talking. Then, in February, she dropped “9th Heaven,” a shorter but super intense song that builds up to a big finish. The full album’s got collabs with artists like Chloe Hotline, Ora Cogan, and a bunch of others on the title track, making it feel like a real journey.
