Bôa is an English alternative rock band that was formed in London in 1993 by drummer Ed Herten, keyboard player Paul Turrell, and guitarist/vocalist Steve Rodgers. Over the years, the band transitioned from a funk band to a rock band with the addition of bassist Alex Caird, multi-instrumentalist Ben Henderson, and vocalist Jasmine Rodgers. The band has achieved over 1 billion streams across their catalog and is set to make a comeback with their first new album in over twenty years, titled “Whiplash,” which is produced by Chris Zane (known for his work with Jack Antonoff, Passion Pit, St. Lucia) and scheduled for release on October 18. The announcement of the album’s release was accompanied by the release of the album’s title track and an accompanying video.

The band’s 1998 cult favorite “Duvet” gained renewed popularity on TikTok, being featured in nearly 300,000 videos and amassing over 688 streams on Spotify. This resurgence inspired bôa to reunite and create new music with a renewed passion. They introduced their new work with the songs “Walk With Me,” “Beautiful & Broken,” and “Worry.”

The title of the album, “Whiplash,” holds multiple meanings, referencing the band’s personal experiences as well as our collective cultural unrest. The album delves into universal emotions of pain, solitude, and triumph, transcending generational boundaries and keeping bôa’s music perpetually fresh.

Jasmine Rodgers shared her experience, stating, “From the first moment in the rehearsal room, we were writing again. Al and I would come up with riffs, and we’d all sketch out a song and build layers. During the songwriting period, I went through a significant breakup, which influenced some of the lyrics. Some of the lyrics also reflect my passionate views on the world and the feeling of not fitting in.”

The title track of the album, “Whiplash,” brings back the timeless warmth that made “Duvet” a hit, while also capturing the raw, guitar-led sounds that originally inspired the band. The song features emotive lyricism and frontwoman Jasmine Rodgers’ musings on embracing both the good and the bad in life.

In addition to their new album, bôa has sold out their first-ever North American headline tour and is set to perform in various cities, including Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and Chicago, with support from Rocket and Sea Lemon. After the North American tour, the band will return to the UK and EU for another sold-out tour starting on October 17.
