About Carlos Sadness
Carlos Sadness is a Spanish singer, songwriter, and illustrator, born on 31st March 1987. He began studying Design while uploading some of his songs to Myspace. After a few years of touring underground, he garnered attention from media and publishers, becoming “one of the most important faces for 2009” according to “El País”. In the same year, he worked with Fernando Vacas to create a different sound in new songs. Carlos considers his first steps as entertainment and learning.
In 2010, Carlos met his first manager, Pito Cubillas, with whom he travelled to Los Angeles and discovered a new way of composing his songs based on indie and folk music. During the same year, he participated in a tribute album to Antonio Vega and Hechizo. By the end of the year, he signed with Sony Music Entertainment.
In January 2011, Carlos released his first EP, “Atraes a los relámpagos”, that helped him make his mark in national indie-pop music. In November, he took part in the Spanish TV programme “El Intermedio” with a humorous sketch about Spanish politics. By the end of the year, he was nominated as “Best New Artist Record 2011” by Radio Televisión Española (RTVE).
In April 2012, Carlos released his album “Ciencias celestes”, revealing his new name, Carlos Sadness. It was a personal and poetic album that reinvented him musically without losing his personality. That year, San Miguel Beer featured him in its new advertising campaign “Ciudadanos en un lugar llamado mundo”.
In 2015, Carlos released his second album, “La idea salvaje”, produced in Glasgow, Scotland, with the collaboration of Santi Balmes. The album is conceptual and revolves around the idea of space travel as a metaphor for the estrangement between two people. His songs were number one on Spotify’s “shared songs” chart for several weeks, and he became one of the six indie artists with more influence on Spanish summer festivals. He closed almost every concert on his tour, including two sold-out dates in Madrid: Teatro Barceló and Sala But.
In 2016, Carlos extended his tour to more than 60 concerts and was part of over 20 festivals. He also wrote his first book, “Anatomías Íntimas,” which was launched in November and became the most pre-ordered book in Fnac from the announcement to its launching. That year, he debuted in Mexico and sold out Lunario three consecutive times. He also attracted the attention of the Mexican media and festivals, where he was invited to perform the following year.
In 2017, Carlos released a single that made him the first Spanish “indie” artist to exceed 600,000 monthly playbacks on Spotify. He played in Vive Latino and did an American tour with ten concerts. His song “Amor Papaya” with Caloncho was the most listened-to Spanish indie song on Spotify in 2017.
In 2018, Carlos released the album “Diferentes Tipos de Luz,” with the advance single “Hale Bopp” on 12th January, and the single “Longitud de Onda” on 2nd February. The album was released on 23rd February, and tickets for the concert in La Riviera Madrid sold out two months before. His song “Aloha” was featured in the soundtrack of the video game FIFA 21.
