Alex Kotz, better known as Elderbrook, has captured the hearts of dance music fans by blending underground electronic sounds with indie, pop, and house influences. Calling him talented is an understatement. He is a producer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter—a true artist whose medium is sound. Elderbrook gained significant recognition with his chart-topping collaboration with CamelPhat, “Cola,” which earned him a GRAMMY nomination. Today, he releases his third album, “Another Touch,” which is an inspiring journey of self-discovery.
The album comprises 12 tracks, all of which are breathtaking and leave no room for skips. Elderbrook combines his stunning vocals with intricate production, making each song profoundly moving in its way. Throughout the album, he explores various moods and genres, selecting perfect collaborators for each track. “Sunshine” features Snakehips and delivers a vibrant summer house vibe, while Vintage Culture lends support to the club-ready “Run.” The heartfelt and melodic “Wait For You” features Turkish DJ and producer Carlita, and the final track is a collaboration with South African DJ and producer Shimza, titled “Places,” where Elderbrook‘s vocals blend seamlessly with afro-tech production. He also showcases his talent in solo tracks like “One More Before You Go,” which stands out as one of the most grandiose records on the project, and “How Long,” another afro-tech track where his vocals delicately soar over the emotional production.
In his words about the album, Elderbrook shares:
“Another Touch is a journey of self-discovery. It begins with someone who has lost themselves so completely that they can barely recognize the person in the mirror. Everything in their life feels shallow and inconsistent, serving as a protective barrier against anything that might hold true meaning. As the album unfolds, so does the story of our ‘hero,’ who discovers new ways to reflect on their life and the lessons learned along the way.
The album centers around the loves, losses, and ups and downs of life, exploring how we perceive ourselves and our place in the world. Who are we when the night ends? When everything goes quiet, and it’s time for us to speak, what do we have to say? It’s a beautiful and reflective narrative of tragedy, loss, and the journey to finding oneself despite the darkness.”
