The Muñoz family, also known as Estopa, is releasing a new album called “Estopía” to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
The album will be available on March 15th and contains twelve new songs. The band’s signature sound, which blends rumba with other genres like rock, rap, and ranchera, is showcased in the album’s lyrics.
The album cover was designed by David Salvador and is a triptych inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” It features multiple pictorial representations that symbolize the band’s DNA. The cover was initially rumored to have been created by AI, but this is false.
Estopa has been a fixture in the Catalan music scene for a quarter of a century, and the band has a busy year ahead of them. They have already sold out two large stadiums, and their 25th-anniversary tour has many more shows scheduled. The band is also preparing for live shows in America.
On March 12th, the band will host a presentation of “Estopía” on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel. Nil Ojeda and Masi will be the presenters, though it is unclear if any of the new songs will be performed. Three songs from the album, “El día que tú te marches,” “La rumba del Pescaílla,” and “La ranchera,” have already been released, and there may be another single released before the album’s release.

Estopa is a Spanish rock and rumba duo hailing from Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain. Their songs “El Run Run” and “Cuando Amanece” reached number one on Billboard’s chart in Spain, while “Con La Mano Levanta” reached number four. The band, comprising of brothers José and David Muñoz, has a unique style that blends rock, rumba and flamenco genres. They have stated that they do not like to be easily categorized.
Their sound is similar to that of Khode, a Spanish rumba band popular in the 1970s. Estopa made a cameo appearance in the Spanish film “The 4th Floor”. They have performed with other popular Spanish artists such as Rosario Flores and Macaco.
Brothers José and David Muñoz were born in 1978 and 1976, respectively, in Cornellà de Llobregat, a suburb of Barcelona. Their parents hailed from Extremadura, a southwestern region of Spain. During their trips with their parents from Cornellà to the Extremaduran village of Zarza Capilla, where their family originally hailed from, the brothers grew up listening to Los Chichos, Los Chunguitos, and Bordón.
José and David attended college for a while before quitting their studies. They worked at a factory manufacturing automobile parts for SEAT. The band name “Estopa” comes from the expression used by their boss to keep everybody on task, “Dale estopa a la maquina”. There, they began composing songs and performing in local bars. After playing a song for the executives at BMG Music España, Estopa was given a record deal. Their first album, “Estopa,” was released on 19 October 1999, and one of its songs, “La Raja de Tu Falda,” became an instant hit. Other songs such as “Tu Calorro,” “Suma y Sigue,” and “El del Medio de los Chichos” (an ode to the band Los Chichos) have also become fan favorites.
