Fleshgod Apocalypse’s sixth album, titled “Opera,” is a powerful musical journey inspired by the tragic mountain climbing accident that happened to frontman Francesco Paoli in 2021.

With this new record, the band is aiming higher than ever before, creating what may be considered a new sub-genre called Opera Metal—a unique blend of extreme music and theatrical elements.

“The best stories often arise from pain, a bitter truth that is undeniable,” states Francesco P. “We managed to turn one of life’s worst experiences into a work of art that reflects our personal and artistic growth, taking listeners through a rollercoaster of emotions. They can experience what I’ve been through alongside me. It’s a waking nightmare, but that’s sometimes how life is—scary.”

“In my artistic depiction of this journey, beginning with my near-death experience and culminating in a much-awaited physical and psychological rebirth, I wanted to portray every single step of my ordeal as if they were acts of an ‘Opera Lirica,’ complete with dialogues or confessions to imaginary characters who have been constant presences throughout my whole misadventure.

“This album plunges you into a whirlwind of discomfort and uncontrollable emotions, where you can feel pain, fear, desperation, anger, and frustration, but also resolve, courage, hope, and a deep desire for redemption. I firmly believe that this album is a testament to resilience, and I hope that my story will inspire people who have felt ‘lost’ for whatever reason.”
