In early May, Future sparked excitement among fans when he wrote on X, “Fuck yo album Shit ain’t slappin like my MIXTAPE.” After months of speculation, he has now announced that Mixtape Pluto will be released on September 20. Mixtape Pluto will be Future’s third full-length project of 2024. His first collaborative album with Metro Boomin, titled “We Don’t Trust You,” was released on March 22, followed by another new project, “We Still Don’t Trust You,” on April 12. Listeners and fans felt that the first album contained veiled shots at Drake, with the most direct attacks coming from guest Kendrick Lamar on “Like That.” The insults seemed to continue with “We Still Don’t Trust You,” with Future and Metro Boomin recruiting more Drake collaborators such as J. Cole, the Weeknd, and A$AP Rocky for the album.

Lamar and Drake engaged in a heated feud after these events, exchanging diss tracks. Drake’s “Push Ups” was his response to Lamar’s “Like That,” followed by Lamar’s “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.” The diss songs stopped with “The Heart Part 6.” Still, Lamar celebrated his apparent beef victory with the Pop-Out concert in Inglewood, California, where he also taunted Drake in the “Not Like Us” music video.

Mixtape Pluto will be the first solo Future release since April 2022’s “I Never Liked You,” which included the Drake-featuring, Grammy-winning single “Wait for U.” The cover art for “MIXTAPE PLUTO” was designed by Chaz “@ALLBLCK” Morgan, who has been a long-time collaborator and Creative Director for Future. The cover sets a dark and eerie mood, illuminated by pink lights that hint at a hidden party within the old Dungeon Family House. This location has a personal connection to Future, as it was formerly owned by his cousin Rico Wade, who passed away on April 13th, 2024. The cover pays tribute to Wade, blending nostalgia with a somber tone to reflect both Future’s loss and Wade’s influence.
