Kevin Abstract has released a new single called “GUM.”
The LA-based musician will release his new album, “Blanket,” on November 3rd, his first full-length album since the end of BROCKHAMPTON.
The album was made over three months and was produced by Kevin Abstract’s longtime collaborator, Romil Hemnani, and multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham. Kevin Abstract has shared a few singles from the upcoming album, including “Blanket” and “GUM.”
“GUM” is a cute bedroom pop song with a lilting acoustic line. The lyrics suggest temptation, flirting, and the moment of attraction. The piece shows Kevin Abstract at his most relaxed and alluring.
In a statement, Kevin Abstract said that he aimed to create a record with the sound of rock bands like Nirvana, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Modest Mouse but hits like a rap album.
The creative process was collaborative, with young screenwriters and veteran songwriters involved in the production. Kevin Abstract gave a sneak peek of songs from the album at his recent shows in New York City and Los Angeles.

Kevin Abstract, a rapper, singer, and songwriter, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2014, he released his debut album, “MTV1987”, which received critical acclaim. He followed it up with “American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story” in 2016 and “Arizona Baby” in 2019. Kevin Abstract had a difficult childhood, as he never met his father and was not close to his mother, whom he did not even know the profession. He left home at 15 and moved to Georgia to live with his sister. Many speculate that his family’s extreme religious beliefs influenced his decision to leave.
