King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard will release their 26th studio album, Flight b741, on Aug. 9 through their own p(doom) records. The first single and video will be unveiled on July 9. The Australian band’s member, Stu Mackenzie, mentioned on social media that they have been working really hard on this album and are excited for everyone to hear it.

Flight b741 includes 10 new tracks, five of which were played during the band’s recent European tour. One of the tracks, “Sad Pilot,” tells the story of a drunken airline employee contemplating leaving his problems at the jet bridge. Another track, “Daily Blues,” is an epic piece with influences from the Doors and the Grateful Dead. “Le Risque” is a lively disco rock song with ELO swagger and a bridge reminiscent of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Lastly, “Raw Feel” has an infectious, singalong chorus.

Ambrose Kenny-Smith described the new album as “pretty rock / blues-rock” with a classic ’70s sound, filled with energy and big vibes. King Gizzard will kick off their North American tour on Aug. 15 in Washington, D.C., and will play at some of the biggest venues in the country to date, including Los Angeles’ 18,000-capacity Kia Forum and the 21,600-capacity Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state. Additionally, before the tour, Kenny-Smith and Jay Watson will release their first collaboration, Ill Times, on July 19 through (p)doom records.

About Artist:

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (KGLW) is an Australian rock band formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. The band’s current lineup consists of Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh. They are known for exploring multiple genres, staging energetic live shows, and building a prolific discography.

The band’s early releases blended surf music and garage rock and were released on their label, Flightless. They released several psychedelic and progressive rock albums in the early 2010s and incorporated a broader range of musical styles later in the decade, such as jazz fusion on “Quarters!” and the folk-inspired “Paper Mâché Dream Balloon.” In 2016, they gained more mainstream attention with “Nonagon Infinity,” which won the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album.
