Lupe Fiasco’s new single “LLC” has been receiving a lot of attention lately, and for good reason.

The Chicago-based rapper has a unique ability to string words together, teasing out double and triple meanings that are mostly unrivaled in the industry. In the past, Lupe has been criticized for his inconsistent instrumental choices, with the general belief being that if he picks a good beat, the song will follow suit. “LLC” is a prime example of this belief.

The track is short and sweet, with Lupe getting straight down to business. The rhyme scheme is complex, filled with wordplay about being “conscious” and “woke” like a person who suffers from sleep paralysis. There are references to an earthquake and 1930s dancing star Fred Astaire, showcasing Lupe’s unique style. The production is simple but tasteful, and overall, “LLC” is a powerful demonstration of Lupe’s undeniable talent.

LYRICS

  • Hawaiian lectures in Madagascar raps
  • Should I get the Cybertruck or bring a gas car back?
  • Or both, with double the notes
  • Like sleep paralysis, unconscious and woke, I
  • Be in New York, just minding my own tropes
  • Looking for a big pot to boil my royal oats
