Magdalena Bay is an American synth-pop and electronic duo based in Los Angeles, California, originally from Miami, Florida. The duo, consisting of singer-songwriter Mica Tenenbaum and producer Matthew Lewin, has released one studio album, three EPs, and three mixtapes named Mini Mixes. The Mini Mixes consist of one- to two-minute songs with accompanying homemade green screen music videos.
The duo has announced the release of their second album, Imaginal Disk. The alt-pop duo will debut the follow-up to Mercurial World on August 23 via Mom+Pop. The music video for their new single “Image” has been directed by Amanda Kramer and is described as uncannily psychedelic. In the press release, the duo invites listeners to imagine a new and improved version of themselves before the release of the new album. They encourage the audience to engage in this exercise by closing their eyes, imagining the better version, waiting 22 minutes, and finally opening their eyes to meet their new self. The band also mentions that the track “Death & Romance,” which was released in May alongside a tour announcement, will be included on the new album. They share a statement encouraging the audience to take part in the exercise of imagining a new self.

The group’s discography includes one studio album, three EPs, and three mixtapes known as Mini Mixes. Mini Mixes are collections of one- to two-minute tracks with DIY green screen music videos.
On October 8, 2021, the pair released Mercurial World, their first studio album. They are well-known for their quirky DIY graphics and educational TikTok films on the music business.
Tenenbaum was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to the US at the age of one. She raised her family in Miami. Lewin’s father is from Argentina, and he was born in Miami. Lewin and Tenenbaum are both Jewish. They first got together at a Live! Modern School of Music program during their high school years. There, they were put in a classic rock cover band and later started creating progressive rock music under the name Tabula Rasa. Tenenbaum was attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and Lewin was attending Northeastern University in Boston when that band disbanded. They continued to work together virtually and went on to form Magdalena Bay in 2016 while on vacation from college. The band has the name of an administrator from Lewin’s previous position.
