About Marv Won
Marvin Eugene O’Neal, known as Marv Won, is an American rapper and record producer from Detroit, Michigan. He is part of the underground hip hop group, The Fat Killahz, along with Fatt Father, Bang Belushi, and King Gordy, and also a member of rap duo Twin Towers. In 2021, he received a nomination for Outstanding Rap MC at the 30th Detroit Music Awards.
Marv Won started The Fat Killahz with Shabazz Ford, Shim-E-Bango, and King Gordy in 2001. The group performed at various locations in Detroit, including the Lush Lounge, the Blind Pig, Motor, St. Andrew’s Hall, the Shelter, and the State Theater. In 2002, the quartet released their mixtape, “2 Fat, 2 Furious,” which received positive feedback in Detroit. They also appeared on King Gordy’s debut solo album, “The Entity,” and opened for D12’s US tour in 2004 with their mixtape “WFKR 31.3 FKM: FK Radio The Mixtape.”
On March 15, 2005, The Fat Killahz released their debut studio album, “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?” via No Tyze Entertainment. The album featured production by notable producers, including Mr. Porter and B.R. Gunna, and Marv co-produced one track on the record.
Marv continued to work on his music and released his debut solo album, “Way of the Won,” in December 2009. He was signed to Kon Artis and Kuniva’s record label, Runyon Ave Records, and released his next project, “Wayne Fontes Music,” a month later in January 2010. In 2011, Marv and The Fat Killahz teamed up again to drop their extended play, “The E.P.,” and were featured on Shim-E-Bango’s “The Bridgecard” and Gordy’s “Jesus Christ’s Mistress” projects before the band’s second hiatus.
In 2012, Marv released the nine-track EP, “Heavy Is the Head,” featuring Royce da 5’9″, Young R.O.C. and The Fat Killahz, among others, with audio production notably handled by both Denaun and Marv. He also appeared on the intro track of Slaughterhouse’s album, “Welcome to: Our House.” In 2013, Marv and Fatts teamed up as Twin Towers and recorded several songs.
Marv collaborated with Illmaculate, another KingOfTheDot battle rap winner, and the duo dropped their self-titled 7-track EP “Birthday Boys” in February 2016. In November 2016, Marv released his fourth solo project, “Soundtrack of Autumn,” which includes Boldy James, Nolan The Ninja, Gwenation, The Fat Killahz, and a bonus track “Suicide Squad” featuring Royce Da 5’9″.
Marv Won is a prominent figure in the battle rap scene, gaining international attention since the World Rap Championships. He often participates in rap battles, sometimes as a double team with Kimani Graham, known as Quest Mcody.
