New Kids on the Block have announced the release of their first album in 11 years, titled “Still Kids”.
The album will be available on May 17 through BMG. It features 14 tracks and a lead single titled “Kids”. The single was co-written and co-produced by David Stewart and Luke Batt, and a music video directed by Marissa Velez will premiere on YouTube at 1:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday. You can also catch the live premiere of the video on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Friday, March 8 during an NKOTB episode takeover.
According to the press release, the album is a mix of pop anthems, dance tracks, love songs, and grooves. It will become a fast favorite for the Blockheads and the fans. The band’s creative director, Donnie Wahlberg, stated that this is the most mature album they’ve ever made, yet it’s the most fun and comfortable album they’ve ever made. In addition, the collection features DJ Jazzy Jeff on “Get Down” and Taylor Dayne on “Old School Love”.
The lead single “Kids” features a look-back chorus from the long-running boy band. The band sings, “And we’re still just kids from a nobody town, still just kids that are messing around, making the most of the things that we found.” The song showcases the band’s fun and energetic spirit, even after almost 40 years together.
Joey McIntyre, who co-wrote six of the tracks with songwriter/producer Sean Thomas, stated that the album has a lot of energy, passion, lightness, fun, and depth despite their almost 40 years together as a band.
LYRICS
- We’re free, and we got nowhere to be
- And we’re still just kids from a nobody town
- Still just kids that are messing around
- Making the most of the things that we found, woah
- Jump in the drop-top ’cause wе’re taking it up
- Got time on lock and it’s all that we got
- Wе’re free and we got nowhere to be
