Polo G‘s latest single “Distraction” has quickly climbed back into the Top 10 of the Genius Top Songs chart. This marks his first solo release of 2022, dropping on June 3rd, six months after the release of the deluxe version of his third album, Hall of Fame.
“Distraction” is produced by Southside, who is reportedly working on a joint album with Polo G. The song features bluesy electric guitars with intermittent siren-like wails and portrays a bittersweet picture of Polo G‘s life. The song opens with Polo G expressing frustration at being underestimated and later touches on street violence and addiction.
After the release of “Distraction,” Polo G teased an upcoming album tentatively titled “Hood Poet.” This album was initially thought to be a joint project with Southside, but it was later confirmed to be a solo effort. Polo G hinted at the project by using a tornado emoji and released several notable singles in 2023.
In August 2023, posters featuring lyrics from the upcoming album along with a QR code began appearing in Los Angeles. Polo G officially announced the project on August 15, 2023, alongside the release of the album’s trailer. He also revealed that the album’s second single, “Barely Holdin’ On,” would be released at the end of the week.
However, the album release was later postponed due to a “minor setback,” which was speculated to be linked to his ongoing legal battle.
