Moriah Rose Pereira, widely known as Poppy, is an American singer, songwriter, and YouTuber born on January 1, 1995. She first gained attention for her unique performance art videos on YouTube, where she embodied an android-like persona that commented on internet culture and modern society. Poppy‘s artistic style is marked by versatility and experimentation.
She launched her music career with the debut extended play, “Bubblebath,” in 2016, followed by her first album, “Poppy.Computer”, in 2017, which kicked off her concert tour of the same name. Her second album, “Am I a Girl?” (2018), featured a blend of electropop and nu-metal. The subsequent album, “I Disagree” (2020), pushed boundaries further, incorporating heavy metal and industrial rock, with the single “Bloodmoney” receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance—making her the first solo female artist nominated in that category.
Poppy‘s sixth studio album, titled “Negative Spaces”, is set to be released on September 23, 2024. Fans had referred to it as “Zag” ahead of the official announcement, anticipating a follow-up to her previous work, “Zig”. As with her past albums, Poppy collaborated with various artists, including former Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish and Stephen Harrison from FEVER 333 for writing and production. This project sees her returning to a heavier sound reminiscent of her album “I Disagree”, after a stint in pop with *Zig*.
“Negative Spaces” showcases a radio-friendly alternative metal style, drawing from metalcore and nu metal influences, with significant contributions from Fish’s production expertise. The album features four singles: “new way out,” “they’re all around us,” “the cost of giving up,” and “crystallized,” the latter two being released as a double single.
