Poppy has explained her approach to creating music as a collaborative effort, stating, “I’ll come in with a skeleton and we piece it together. I feel the need to make sense of my own code, in an effort to understand myself.”

Moriah Rose Pereira, known professionally as Poppy, is an American singer, songwriter, and YouTuber. In 2014, Poppy gained viral fame for her surreal performance art videos on YouTube, satirizing internet culture and modern society. Poppy signed a recording contract with Island Records in early 2014 and released her debut EP ‘Bubblebath’ in 2016.

Poppy signed with Mad Decent in 2017 and released her debut studio album, ‘Poppy.Computer.’ The album consists of art pop and bubblegum pop songs. To promote the album, she went on the Poppy—computer Tour. In 2018, she released the pilot episode for the proposed surreal comedy series ‘I’m Poppy’ on YouTube Premium. She also released her second studio album, ‘Am I a Girl?’, which featured a heavy nu-metal influence in its second half.
In 2020, Poppy signed with Sumerian Records and released her third studio album, ‘I Disagree.’ The album incorporated heavy metal and industrial rock and featured lyrical themes and music videos that some critics described as “disturbing,” “violent,” and “macabre.” In collaboration with professional wrestling promotion WWE and its NXT brand, she released the metalcore EP ‘Eat (NXT Soundtrack)’ in 2021. Three months later, she released her fourth studio album, ‘Flux,’ which was critically acclaimed. Poppy experimented with alternative rock and featured a less harsh and more stripped-down sound than her previous works.
Poppy’s fifth studio album, ‘Zig,’ is set to be released in 2023. The singles from the album have been described as dark pop. In 2021, her song “Bloodmoney” was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
