Earlier this summer, Quavo entered a new collaboration era, releasing tracks with Lana Del Rey and Peso Pluma. The rapper previewed his upcoming single featuring Lenny Kravitz on Instagram. The song, presumably titled “FLY,” was confirmed to be released on Friday, August 9. In the teaser clips, Quavo and Kravitz are seen walking towards the camera, with snippets of the song revealed.
The lyrics in the song include: “I’m feelin’ the wave / I wanna fly / Let’s get geeked, let’s get drunk, let’s get high / Don’t go on a plane / I’m sittin’ in jet way / You already know which way we goin’, that way.”
Following the previews, producer Southside and artist Chance the Rapper showed their support. However, fan reactions were mixed, with some expressing disappointment and others appreciating Quavo’s effort to keep his music fresh with the use of a Lenny Kravitz sample.
The original song, “Fly Away,” was featured on Lenny Kravitz’s 5 album in 1998. Many people expressed their love for Kravitz in the comments, while some fans reminisced seeing the song in a Bahamas tourism commercial.
Earlier this year, Quavo covered “Fly Away” alongside George Clinton at a Los Angeles Grammys party for The Recording Academy Honors. In July, Quavo and Lana Del Rey released a country-rap collaboration called “Tough,” depicted in a music video showing the duo enjoying life at a countryside mansion.
About Artist:
Quavious Keyate Marshall (born April 2, 1991), also known as Quavo, is an American rapper, singer, and record producer. He is best known as the leader of the now-defunct hip-hop group Migos. In 2008, he formed the group with his nephew Takeoff and mutual friend Offset, and they released four commercially successful studio albums until disbanding in 2023.
Marshall has appeared on six Billboard Hot 100 top ten singles, including Post Malone’s diamond-certified “Congratulations,” Justin Bieber’s “Intentions,” Liam Payne’s “Strip That Down,” Drake’s “Portland,” and DJ Khaled’s “No Brainer” and “I’m the One,” the latter of which peaked at number one. His debut studio album, Quavo Huncho (2018), reached number two on the Billboard 200 and produced the platinum-certified hit “Workin Me.” His second album, Rocket Power (2023), reached number 18 and was issued in commemoration of Takeoff, who was killed the previous year.
Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset joined together to form Migos in 2008. Quavo and Takeoff are related, and Quavo‘s mother raised them both. Quavo was Takeoff’s uncle. The group was formerly called Polo Club and hails from Lawrenceville, Georgia. They changed their name to “Migos” after thinking that Polo Club was too generic. On August 25, 2011, the group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled Juug Season. They released the mixtape No Label on June 1, 2012.
