Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rex Orange County, also known as Alexander James O’Connor, has announced his upcoming fifth studio album, “The Alexander Technique.” The album is set to be released on Sept. 6 through RCA Records/Sony Music Entertainment.

Rex made his debut at age 16 with his first album, “Bcos U Will Never Be Free” (2015). Following the success of platinum-certified hit singles “Sunflower” and “Best Friend,” and his album “Apricot Princess” (2017), Rex signed with RCA. He subsequently released “Pony” (2019) and “Who Cares?” (2022). After the success of “Who Cares?” which debuted at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, Rex is now excited to release his fifth record, “The Alexander Technique,” after teasing it one week prior on X.

The album’s first two songs, “Alexander” and “Guitar Song,” have been released today.

“Alexander” is a piano-driven track in which Rex addresses his personal struggles and life experiences. In the song, he sings about battling chronic back pain and the realization that it may stem from deeper emotional issues, exploring themes of both physical and emotional pain. Showcasing his musical evolution through introspective lyrics and a genre-blending style, Rex continues his self-reflection in “Guitar Song,” delving into past feelings of teenage insecurity and confusion, ultimately coming to terms with himself as he ages while searching for peace.

About Artist:

Alexander James O’Connor, professionally known as Rex Orange County, is an English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. NPR Music’s Zoë Jones has described O’Connor’s music as “a bright blend of hip-hop, jazz, and bedroom pop”.

At just 16, O’Connor taught himself how to produce his own music and released his debut album, “Bcos U Will Never Be Free” (2015), for free on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. He then released several solo singles in 2016 and 2017, including the platinum-certified singles “Sunflower” and “Best Friend”, before dropping his second studio album, “Apricot Princess” (2017). His work with Tyler, the Creator on two songs from Flower Boy (2017) helped him rise to prominence and sign with RCA Records.

O’Connor’s third studio album, “Pony” (2019), delved into more personal topics and experimented with different genres. The album marked his first entry into the Billboard 200, reaching number three on the chart. His fourth studio album, “Who Cares?” (2022), topped the United Kingdom chart and reached number five on the Billboard 200.
