Shawn Mendes announced on Instagram that his new self-titled album, “Shawn Mendes,” will be released on October 18th. The album will feature 12 songs, with the first two singles, “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough,” set to be released on August 9th. Mendes also shared a trailer for the album, in which he is seen playing guitar in a forest and singing around a campfire with friends.
In his post, Mendes expressed gratitude for his friends and family, stating that creating the album was made possible with their support. This will be Mendes’ fifth studio album, following his 2020 release, “Wonder,” and his 2018 self-titled album. The album was written and co-produced by Mendes, along with collaborators Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, Nate Mercereau, and Eddie Benjamin, with additional songs co-written by Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska.
Last year, he updated fans on his well-being and the “healing process” he had been through. “The process was very difficult. A lot of doing therapy, a lot of trying to understand how I was feeling and what was making me feel that way. And then doing the work to help myself and heal. And also leaning on people in my life to help a little bit,” he said.
“I think the last year and a half has been the most eye-opening and growing and beautiful and just healing process of my life. I’m also really grateful for all the people that were so accepting and loving and kind and understanding.”
Last summer, he appeared on stage with Ed Sheeran in Toronto for ‘Lego House’, his first live performance in more than a year.
About Artist:
Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on August 8, 1998. When he started posting song covers on the Vine video sharing website in 2013, he began to gain popularity. The following year, he piqued the interest of Island Records A&R Ziggy Chareton and artist manager Andrew Gertler, which led him to sign a record deal with the label. 2014 saw the publication of Mendes’ self-titled debut EP, while 2015 saw the release of his debut studio album Handwritten. With Handwritten’s number one debut on the US Billboard 200, Mendes became one of just five musicians in history to achieve this feat prior to turning 18. “Stitches” peaked at number one, and in the US and Canada, it made it into the top ten.
The singles “Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” from Mendes‘ second album Illuminate (2016) debuted at number one in the US and made it to the top 10 in a number of other nations. His 2018 self-titled third studio album featured the lead single “In My Blood” as a supporting track. Mendes became the third-youngest artist to have three number-one albums when the album debuted at number one in the US. The popular singles “If I Can’t Have You” and “Señorita” were released in 2019, with the latter reaching the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. Wonder (2020), his fourth studio album, made him the youngest male artist to ever have four consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart.
Mendes has garnered numerous honors, including three Grammy Award nominations, one Brit Award nomination, ten MTV Europe Music Awards, eight Juno Awards, eight iHeartRadio MMVAs, two American Music Awards, and thirteen SOCAN awards. He was listed by Time as one of the 100 most important persons in the world on their yearly list in 2018.
