SIMONE SIMONS has been a pioneering force in the world of metal for over two decades as part of EPICA. Now, together with her musical partner and longtime collaborator, ARJEN LUCASSEN (AYREON), she is releasing her debut solo record, Vermillion.
ARJEN is familiar with SIMONE’s soaring operatic voice, which has the power to move even a gargoyle’s stone heart to tears. Together, they have created a sonic universe that befits her influential figure. Vermillion emerges as a powerful and emotionally stirring force. The album is set to be released on the 23rd of August via Nuclear Blast Records.
In conjunction with the announcement of her solo record, SIMONE has unveiled a video for the album’s first single, ‘Aeterna’.
SIMONE and ARJEN comment: “Aeterna is the grand, epic opening track of the album and comes with an amazing video directed by Patric Ullaeus. It shares similarities with Epica and Ayreon, blending powerful Latin lyrics with an oriental touch. We aimed to strike a balance between the powerful, bombastic sounds and the more atmospheric parts. As the first track that people will hear from this album, it holds great significance for us, and we’re thrilled for people to hear it. Aeterna takes the perspective of a star on the verge of going supernova, exploring how everything in the universe is interconnected, like a cosmic web made from stardust. It delves into our deep emotions, consciousness, and other mysteries of life that science still can’t fully explain. Essentially, it’s a reflection on our place in the vast universe and the connections that bind us together, as we’re all, to quote Carl Sagan, ‘made of starstuff’.”

About Artist:
Dutch singer Simone Johanna Maria Simons was born on January 17, 1985. Her most well-known role is that of lead singer for the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica, which she joined at the age of seventeen and with which she toured the globe and released eight studio albums. She has also worked with bands like Kamelot, Leaves’ Eyes, Primal Fear, Ayreon, and Angra during her vocal career. She also blogs about lifestyle on her website, SmoonStyle, as a side project.
Simons was born in Heerlen’s Hoensbroek, close to the border between Belgium and Germany. Janneke, her younger sister, was born on Simone’s second birthday.
