Louisiana recording artist Summrs is getting ready to release his 10th album “Tale of da Raven.” This will be preceded by his 16th EP, the second of the year following “B4daRaven”. Summrs started out as a member of the Goonie-founded Slayworld collective, and he’s made a name for himself in the plugg scene by consistently releasing projects. Some of his previous work includes the EP “What We Have” and the LP “Fallen Raven,” both of which I highly recommend checking out if you’re new to his music. I found “Stuck in My Ways” and “Ghost” cool, but “Rino” brought back the plugg elements that “Ghost” lacked in the official sequel to “What We Have” called “What We Didn’t Have.” I’m curious about the direction of “Nightfall.”

The final EP ahead of the next LP begins with “Bentley Mulsanne,” which asserts Summrs’ dominance over a futuristic trap instrumental. “F.W.W.Y.N. (Fuck Wrong With Y’all N****s?)” features a cavernous trap beat and talks about never catching Summrs slipping. “Phantom Musik” has a hollow production and confesses that Summrs still thinks he’s doing things right even when they’re wrong. “F.O.B. (Family Oriented Business)” is a vibrantly catchy track about Summrs coming for what’s his. “Marble Floors” is a great trap/regalia crossover, and the outro is a rage-inducing anthem for his fans.

Compared to “What We Didn’t Have,” “B4daRaven” had more of a prominent pluggnb/pop rap sound with cloud rap undertones, while “Nightfall” generally leans more toward straight forward trap with hints of cloud rap, regalia, and rage. It seems like all of these sounds are coming together, and I’m looking forward to Summrs’ next album when he feels ready to tell the “Tale of da Raven.”
