The Coronas are an Irish rock band from Dublin. They released their music through their independent record label, 3ú Records, and split their time between Dublin and London. The band has released seven studio albums: “Heroes or Ghosts” (2007), “Tony Was an Ex-Con” (2009), “Closer to You” (2011), “The Long Way” (2014), “Trust The Wire” (2017), “True Love Waits” (2020), and “Time Stopped” (2022).
Three of the band’s members – Danny O’Reilly, Graham Knox, and Conor Egan – met at Terenure College and formed a band called Kiros with a friend. The band later reformed as Corona, and then changed their name to The Coronas to avoid confusion with an Italian dance outfit. Their first album brought them widespread acclaim with popular songs like “Heroes or Ghosts” and “San Diego Song.” “Tony Was an Ex-Con” won Best Irish Album at the 2010 Meteor Awards, beating out other nominees such as Snow Patrol’s “Up To Now” and U2’s “No Line on the Horizon.” “Closer to You” was their first UK release in 2011, later in 2012. In November 2014, the band released their debut album with Island Records, “The Long Way.”
Following the release of their seventh studio album “Time Stopped” in 2022, The Coronas have announced that they’re set to return with a new LP, “Thoughts & Observations,” on September 27.
To coincide with the announcement, the Irish three-piece have shared “That’s Exactly What Love Is,” a new single from the project featuring English singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin.
“Thoughts & Observations,” written in Dingle, Co. Kerry, and recorded in Eastcote Studios in London with Grammy Award-winning producer George Murphy, is described as a “powerful, melodic record which takes an incisive look at life, relationships, and art.”
The LP also features the talents of The Coronas‘ touring supergroup – including Lar Kaye (All Tvvins) on guitar, Cian MacSweeney (True Tides) on saxophone, and Róisín O on backing vocals.
“Every album we make is with a view to improving our live show,” comments Danny O’Reilly. “We still feel like we have something to say.”
