The Rolling Stones have announced the release of their first album of original material in 18 years. The album, titled “Hackney Diamonds”, features high-profile guests.
Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder are both featured on the Stones’ new album. They collaborated on the single “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven”, which is a gospel-infused ballad with a slow-burn feel. Lady Gaga’s powerful vocals can be heard more prominently than Stevie Wonder’s contributions on the song. On the track, Stevie Wonder plays Fender Rhodes, Moog, and piano.
The band released “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” as their second single from the upcoming album on Thursday. The song features bluesy, gospel-tinged vocals from Lady Gaga, with Stevie Wonder taking the whole group to church on the keyboard. Throughout the song, the singers trade vocals, with Mick Jagger crooning about hearing the sounds of heaven drifting down to meet him on earth and Gaga providing soaring riffs behind him. The song also features a powerful arrangement of guitars, saxophones, and drums.
Ronnie Wood, a member of the Stones, previously praised Gaga’s vocals as “really sweet” in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that confirmed the project was in the works. Wood said in a separate Sky News interview at the event that they were recording separate projects in the same area and decided to team up for the Hackney Diamonds session. During the session, Lady Gaga was sitting on the studio floor, and Mick asked her to record her humming. She then got up and recorded her vocals for the song.
