Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake are reuniting for a new single. They were famous in the mid-to-late 00s for hits like Maneater, Promiscuous, Say It Right, and Sexyback. They teamed up for Give It To Me, a number one single that was like pop music’s Avengers in 2007.
Since then, Nelly and Timbo have drifted apart professionally. Although Nelly has released two albums, none of them feature work with Timbo. However, she is currently on a white-hot comeback streak which seems to have pulled the three stars into the studio for the first time in over 10 years. Yesterday (August 23), Timbaland announced on his social media that he has a new song with Nelly and Justin coming out next week, on September 1. The name of the song has yet to be revealed.
Timbaland has reportedly been in the studio with Justin, putting finishing touches on his new album, a follow-up to 2017’s Man In The Woods. The album divided critical opinion and debuted at Number 2 on the Official Albums Chart. Timbaland had previously worked with Justin on his 2013 Number 1 comeback album The 20/20 Experience and the biggest hit from that album, the chart-topping ballad Mirrors. On the other hand, Nelly hasn’t worked with Timbaland officially since Loose.
Although she has appeared on some feature tracks like Give It To Me and the 2009 Top 10 hit Morning After Dark, Timbaland wasn’t involved in the making of her 2012 The Spirit Indestructible or 2017’s lo-fi indie record The Ride. This year, however, she’s really put her foot to the floor with a brand new comeback record in the works. She recently appeared on Dom Dolla’s Eat Your Man, which spliced together the hooks of several of her earlier, Timbaland-produced hits like Promiscuous and Maneater.
