Wasia Project, a musical duo formed by siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy, has released a new single called “Takes Me Back Home” as a preview of their upcoming Isotope EP.

The new single, “Takes Me Back Home,” is a tender ballad that expresses a longing for connection and a sense of belonging. The song features Olivia’s sweet vocals accompanied by soft piano, organ, and strings, creating a deeply emotional experience. According to the duo, the song is a love song about feeling safe and at home with another person, but it also delves into deeper emotions related to belonging and connecting with others.

This single follows their previous release, “Is This What Love Is?” which received acclaim and has become a fan favorite. The duo, known for blending classical training with jazz-pop, has amassed millions of streams globally, with a strong following in the Philippines and Indonesia. Their upcoming EP, “Isotope,” promises to showcase their genre-bending pop style along with an innovative audio-visual concept.

Influenced by artists like Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell, Mitski, and Weyes Blood, the duo’s music merges bedroom DIY with classical intellect and spiky disco with freewheeling jazz. Olivia’s vocals are likened to those of Rickie Lee Jones and Joni Mitchell, while the band’s melodic complexity and heartfelt lyricism channel the spirit of other influential artists.

Additionally, Will Gao, a member of the duo, is known for his role as Tao Xu in the Netflix LGBTQI+ series “Heartstopper.” Their breakout hit “ur so pretty” was featured in the pivotal final scene of the second series season finale, which aired in early August 2023.
