“Still Praying” brings together Westside Gunn and DJ Drama, creating a dynamic collaboration that fuses Gunn’s gritty street narratives from Buffalo with the iconic vibe of DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz mixtape series. This partnership is a testament to the strength of underground hip-hop and its integration with contemporary sensibilities. Known for their distinct styles, Gunn and Drama cultivate a vivid, raw, and charismatic atmosphere throughout the album, reflecting themes of resilience, authenticity, and Gunn’s ongoing growth as an artist.

Westside Gunn has built a reputation for blending gritty street stories with references to art and fashion, crafting a sound that embodies both high art and hip-hop. With Drama’s involvement, “Still Praying” acquires a more cinematic quality, adding depth to Gunn’s introspective lyrics. DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz label provides the album with classic mixtape energy, featuring exciting ad-libs and smooth transitions that keep listeners engaged from one track to the next.

The album features notable collaborations with members of Gunn’s Griselda crew, alongside other guest appearances that enrich the storytelling and sonic experience. The tracklist showcases Gunn’s signature mix of hard-hitting verses and vivid imagery, complemented by Drama’s strategic production, enhancing the balance between reflective themes and raw energy. Production contributions come from familiar collaborators like Conductor Williams and Daringer, as well as other talented beatsmiths. “Still Praying” follows Gunn’s 2020 project “And Then You Pray For Me” and comes shortly after the release of his newest EP, titled “11,” just a day prior.

“Some paintings are masterpieces, and this just happens to be one,” said Gunn in a statement about his new album. “I wanted to show everybody that not only am I the best curator; I can also rap my ass off.”

In addition to the new album, Gunn is set to take over Chicago on November 2 with the “Heels Have Eyes 3” event. This gathering will celebrate his love for wrestling through the lenses of art, fashion, and music, in collaboration with his new professional wrestling promotion, “4th Rope.” Attendees can expect musical performances by DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Statik Selektah, Rome Streetz, Daringer, and more special guests. The event will also feature live wrestling matches, including a “Steel Praying” steel cage match, Joe Hendry versus AJ Francis, and Moose versus Zilla Fatu for the 4th Rope heavyweight championship belt, among others.
